Festival Description

Presented by the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, The Graduate Center, CUNY, the annual PRELUDE Festival celebrates the explorers and visionaries of NYC’s theatre and performance scene. Dozens of performances, conversations, and symposia will take place at The Martin E. Segal Theatre. Dynamic performance artist and groups will be in conversation with each other at the close of each day. This is a unique opportunity to hear the artists informally discuss how they create their work. As in years past, PRELUDE continues to look beyond New York with its international SPOTLIGHT series that will showcase the work of contemporary theater artists with readings, screenings and workshops.

Festival Dates October 3 - 5, 2012

Festival Story:

PRELUDE: At the Forefront of Contemporary NYC Theatre, is a mini-festival and symposium celebrating and discussing the very best of new and unconventional theatre being created by NYC-based theatre artists and companies. The weekend will feature short performances, readings, and open rehearsals with a focus on works-in-progress for the upcoming season and beyond. PRELUDE gives audiences the rare chance to see the work of NYC’s most distinctive contemporary theatre under one roof. Experience the in-progress work of the city’s most exciting, unconventional theatre—with all performances followed by talkbacks with artists. Curated by Andy Horwitz, Geoffrey Scott and Frank Hentschker. Performances are FREE.
