Festival Description

In 2011 The Dreaming Festival will merge with the Woodford Folk Festival that happens from December 27, 2011 – January 1, 2012. Due to substantial flooding that occurred in Queensland the venue will not be able to accommodate the 2011 festival. Therefore The Dreaming has been moved from June 2011 to the December/January dates. For more information about the festival visit the web site.

The Dreaming is an annual festival celebrating the cultural diversity of indigenous cultures, presenting over 200 high profile indigenous acts from Australia and around the World. Three days and four nights of concerts, theatre, dance, speakers and film, complete with ceremony grounds, traditional healing, art galleries, rituals, fire story circles, and workshops across nine venues and twelve galleries. The festival offers an intimate indigenous experience with an embracing atmosphere described by audiences as awakening, enriching, inspiring and deadly. The Dreaming has become known for presenting acts of international significance and as an annual ceremony time where people connect, celebrate and are intrigued by the spirit of The Dreaming.

Festival Story:

Imagine yourself on the grass, beneath the stars, witnessing a gathering of over a hundred Aboriginal clan groups performing an ancient story. In the background a songman of Arnhem Land accompanies the ceremony. Campfires light the night and the rhythmic stomp brings you to your feet to join the dance. Welcome to The Dreaming, a captivating festival, celebrating Indigenous culture. Presenting over 200 of the finest Indigenous acts, speakers and galleries from across Australia and around the world.

You are invited to immerse yourself, listen to ancient languages resounding around the beautifully illuminated valley. Echoes from an ancient time, a long time past, so palpable and yet so present. A place where people come to gather, to share knowledge, to discover the new, to play a part in a three day journey which invites all to connect with our country’s spiritual ancestry in an intimate setting.
