Festival Description

The Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance began in 1989 and is organized every three years. The Festival brings together talented classical Indian dancers. The 2007 events feature six well known dancers representing six classical dance styles from outside the region, along with five classical dancers from Manipuri. Nirmala Mutum, a Manipuri Bharatnatyam dancer will perform. In addition, the prominent artists participating in the festival include Jayant Kastuar the secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi. Kastuar performs the Kathak dance which features fast footwork—a particilar style developed in northern India.
