| Festival Description | The Festival originated in 1978 as a joint enterprise of the Illinois State University Department of Theatre and the College of Fine Arts, in cooperation with the Illinois State University Foundation (a not-for-profit enterprise). It has since grown into one of the premier professional theatre companies in the state, with over 40 performances every summer. The Festival performs outdoors in the evening at the new Theater Under the Stars at Ewing Manor. The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is known nationally in the theatre community as one of the top Outdoor Shakespeare Festivals. |
