Festival Description | The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, located in Montgomery—Alabama's state capital—is the sixth largest Shakespeare festival in the world and attracts more than 300,000 annual visitors from all 50 states and over 60 countries. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is located in the heart of the South, a region identified with conservatism and tradition as well as with fierce independence, eccentricity, exotic metaphor, and violence. It is a land of storytellers, an incubator for the most influential and original twentieth-century American writers such as William Faulkner and Tennessee Williams. The Festival is also the gateway for aspiring writers through the Southern Writers' Project (SWP). |
