Festival Description | Since 1947 the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been officially considered the largest arts festival in the world. The diverse program includes theatre, comedy, music, dance, exhibitions and much more… In previous editiosn, hundreds of groups participated by putting on +2000 different shows with a total of +31,000 performances in over 200 venues. Anyone can perform at the Fringe, as it’s an open arts festival. The Festival Fringe Society (commonly known as the Fringe Office) does not produce any of the shows, does not invite anybody to perform and pays no fees to performers. They do, however, help performers every step of the way. The Fringe began in 1947, and when the Edinburgh International Festival was launched it was seen as a post-war initiative to re-unite Europe through culture, and was so successful that it inspired more performers than there was room for. The Fringe lives in the present—shifting and changing from year to year to accommodate all of the people who want to attend. Edfringe.com is your one-stop source for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. You can use it to order the Fringe Programme, shop for Fringe merchandise and to purchase your tickets for Fringe shows.
