Festival Description | The Salisbury Festival was established in 1973—the Festival has continued to develop into a multi-arts event while retaining music at its core while gaining a reputation for outdoor performance, new circus and theatre, unique visual arts and community projects. A free fringe festival introduced a music events programme in pubs, clubs and hotels in and around Salisbury. The City, with its vibrant modern culture provides an excellent backdrop for events, with Salisbury Playhouse, the City Hall, Salisbury Arts Centre, the Cathedral, and a number of galleries, churches and stately homes, enabling the expansion of the Festival. The Festival looks forward to engaging with the community through the universal language of the arts. Continuing with the environmental focus, the four-year theme “Resonate” is sure to reflect the all-embracing nature of this contemporary, multi-discipline and multi-cultural celebration of the arts. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Living River project tells the story of the River Avon and how its special natural heritage has developed alongside the history of the area. Liquid Shapes sees river and water inspired sculptures sited within the communities who have been engaged in their creation. |
