Festival Description | Sauti za Busara music festival is an annual celebratory event held at the Old Fort in Zanzibar. The programming features a diverse medley of African music with over four hundred musicians and fringe events. Participating artists taking part hail from Zanzibar, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and many other countries. Live shows both acoustic and electric, include established and rising artists. There is also the popular Carnival Street Parade of brass bands, ngoma drummers, mwanandege umbrella women, stilt-walkers, capoeira dancers, acrobats among others. Importantly there are collaborative sessions among the local and visiting artists. Seminars and training workshops, networking, African music films, a marketplace with local food and drinks, music, jewellery, clothing and handicrafts. To round out the festival experience there are fringe events, open-mic sessions, parties and so very much more… |

- Applications are now open to apply for the chance to perform at the 11th edition of Sauti za Busara. In past years, more than 350 groups have performed, including Cheikh Lo, Khaira Arby, Mokoomba, Samba Mapangala & Orchestra Virunga, Nneka, Natacha Atlas, Didier Awadi, Bassekou Kouyate, Jagwa Music, Tumi & the Volume, Fredy Massamba, Thandiswa, Culture Musical Club, Orchestre Poly Rythmo, Sousou & Maher Cissoko and more. The festival features live music only, i.e. no playback Note we receive hundreds of applications every year. All artists have to complete online application and send recordings to reach our office before 31 July 2012. The festival selection committee meets in August and all applicants are notified of outcomes by email during September.
