Acknowledged as the first festival devoted specifically to a new aesthetic, Hip Hop dance, the DanceFest brings professional and youth Hip Hop dance companies together for one remarkable weekend of performances. The DanceFest serves an important cross-section of the arts community, giving recognition to a rich and exciting dance form that is grounded in the Bay Area and is part of an international artistic movement. This legendary event offers professional Hip Hop dance companies the level of production, exposure, and acknowledgement that they urgently deserve, nurturing emerging artists and consistently contributing to the evolution of both Hip Hop and dance. |

Festival Story:
Founded in 1999 by producer, Hip Hop dance teacher, and choreographer Micaya, the DanceFest has presented professional Hip Hop dance companies from the Bay Area, New York, Vancouver, Paris, Chicago, Virginia, Colorado, Los Angeles, Seattle, Mexico, and Philadelphia. The San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest remains unique for its dedication to presenting the highest quality professional Hip Hop dance companies and for its forward-thinking curatorial focus. The DanceFest was first presented at Theater Artaud in San Francisco, and moved to the historic Palace of Fine Arts in 2002 to accommodate overwhelming audience demand.
