Festival Description | The Galle Literary Festival is set in and around the historic city of Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The program boasts over 70 events — By day, there are panel discussions, debates, book launches, poetry slams, literary lunches and dinners, film evenings, seminars, and a comprehensive children’s program. By night, the program features poetry slams, jazz performances, late night movies, art showings, and photographic exhibitions. Over 40 international and 50 Sri Lankan writers have participated including Gore Vidal, Vikram Seth, Alexander McCall Smith, William Dalrymple, Simon Winchester, Kamila Shamsie, Jung Chang, Yasmine Gooneratne, Shyam Selvadurai, and Karen Roberts. The 2007 festival honored the late Nihal De Silva, a celebrated Sri Lankan author. |
