Festival Description | Folk on the Water at Saul Canal Festival—two great events at one wonderful venue. The events combine a Boat Gathering & Folk Music Festival in a beautiful corner of Gloucestershire. Local and national artists performing on four stages—music, morris, theatre and top line traditional and folk/rock artists. The line-up includes an impressive 45 acts made up of 219 artists who will provide a total of 78 performances on four different stages. The Saul Canal Festival is about restoration. A concept forged over thirty years ago with the formation of the Stroudwater Canal Society. The event is designed to attract media attention, people and funds to facilitate the re-establishment of the link between the rivers Thames and Severn. The event takes place at Saul Junction, an unusual ‘waterway crossroads’ where the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal intersects the soon to be restored Stroudwater Navigation. There will be a floating Festival Hotel and four music venues including the music pavilion with seating; this will accommodate top line concerts on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings as well as a full programme of free entry daytime performances. Riverside Green—a new area launched in 2006 and dedicated to creating an ‘evening street market atmosphere’ selling arts & crafts will be open on the Friday evening. The 2009 festival will not take place. |
