Billed as one of Northern Europe's largest blues festivals, Notodden has attracted some of the genre's biggest names, including B.B. King, Big Jack Johnson, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, the Robert Cray Band, and Wilson Pickett. Notodden, began in 1988, departs from the open-air scene found at other music festivals, opting instead for the more intimate—and ultimately bluesier settings at 100 to 3000 seat clubs and auditoriums. Festivities also spill out onto the street, and food stalls, souvenir stands, and tents insure that the town square stays crowded throughout the event.
