Launched in 1986, this festival is held at the Melbu Community Hall and the restored Melbu Mansion to coincide with the annual seminar activities of the Nordland Academy of Arts and Sciences. The seminar programme, or Melbuconference, deals with various topics and includes discussions on global peacekeeping, literature, jazz, philosophy, press and media work. The festival is a framework of activities surrounding the seminars and features various concerts, exhibitions, social events and outdoor activities such as fishing in the beautiful surrounding fjords. The events attract participants from all over the country.
