Established in 1982, Varanger Festival takes place in Vadsø situated close to the Russian border. The festival features concerts in jazz, blues and rock. In addition there are jazz cruises on a coastal steamer, seminars, street parades and special programmes for young children and teenagers, market events, fine art exhibitions and theatre. Altogether it incorporates 35 events viewed by over 9,000 spectators. Musicians from the Euro Arctic Barents region participate, with emphasis on artists from Norway and especially northern Norway.
