Festival Description

Xavier Vandamme, programming director at Oude Muziek Utrecht has created a rich program for the 2010 edition with the theme of French Baroque music featuring both instrumental and vocal genres, and sacred and profane music that inspire grandeur and contemplation. The music festival is held each year in August-September. The programming will also include an Early Music Exhibition, the numerous free fringe concerts and a day dedicated to a special instrument.

    • Capriccio Stravagante
      What did Lully’s orchestra sound like? Skip Sempé and Capriccio Stravagante bring out the reconstructed 24 Violons du Roy for a sparkling Festival opening.

    • Le Concert Spirituel
      Hervé Niquet directs a performance of Campra’s comedy Le carnaval de Venise with among the soloists Carolyn Sampson and Stéphanie d’Oustrac.
  • September 1, 8:00pm (20h)
    • Holland Baroque Society
      Flute player Alexis Kossenko questions Rameau and Rousseau on the essence of music in this concert by the Netherlands’ most industrious baroque orchestra.
  • September 3, 8:00pm (20h)
    • Les Nouveaux Caractères
      Sébastien d’Hérin conducts his new orchestra in Rameau’s lush opéra-ballet Les surprises de l’Amour.
  • September 5, 8:00pm (20h)
    • Le Concert des Nations
      Jordi Savall closes the Festival with Rameau. His illustrious ensemble performs suites from Les Indes galantes, Zoroastre and Dardanus.
