Volubilis International Festival

The International Volubilis Festival, held in the traditional and historic town of Meknes, presents ayearly large arts festival of Moroccan and international artists, with movies, music and theatre. Inaddition to international cultural performances, the festival includes special programs for children andbook caravans. The Moroccan Ministry of Culture has organized the festival yet again, presenting dance troupes, music groups, singers, and musicians and a smattering of international musical offerings. Festival films are predominantly francophone, and represent the best of Arab and West African cinema. Founded in the 3rd century BC, Volubilis played an important role in the Roman Empire as the capital of Mauritania. Today it remains an important archeological site, situationed in a fertile agricultural region.
