Festival Description

The Northern Lights Festival celebrated its inaugural year in 2007 and referred to itself as the John Lennon Northern Lights Festial. The Festival featured a rich and diverse program of poets, films, music, dancing in a cave, open-mic in the evening, visual artists and speakers to celebrate the life and works of John Lennon. For the inaugural Festival, Yoko Ono graciously allowed the use of the former Beatle’s name to be featured in the title. From 2008 on the musician’s name will be dropped from the festival title. Durness, a small town in one of the farthest reaches of Scotland has a population of only 356, is one of the most remote villages located on northwest corner of Scotland. Its rugged coastline and dramatic landscapes, popular with campers, can only be accessed by a single track road. The Northern Lights Festival received the “Best New Festival Award 2007”.
