Festival Description

The Festival will feature piano music performed by internationally acclaimed artists and will take place in the Palanga Tiškevičiai Palace and at the foot of Birutė Hill. Paulius Andersson and Ignas Maknickas, the young rising stars on the Lithuanian piano scene, will play at the opening concert for the International M. K. Čiurlionis Music Festival. They will perform together with the Orchestra of the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art School and the Klaipėda “Aukuras” Choir. The concert will feature M. K. Čiurlionis’ and F. Chopin’s works as well as the impressive L. van Beethoven Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra which is close to L. van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in its musical material and ideas. The final theme of the Symphony has been chosen for the European Anthem. L. van Beethoven Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra will be a wonderful and meaningful highlight of the Festival.

The Tiškevičiai Palace will host a line-up of established pianists including the world-renowned Lithuanian pianist Petras Geniušas who has performed in the world’s top venues and is well-known to both Lithuanian and international music lovers. Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, M. K. Čiurlionis music expert and researcher, will add weight to the Festival. Prominent Russian pianist Vera Nosina will perform M. K. Čiurlionis’ and other composers’ masterpieces. Famous as an expert in J. S. Bach’s music in Russia, she is also an active promoter of M. K. Čiurlionis’ music. The Festival will also host the concert by the pianist Paulius Rudokas, the laureate of the International St. Vainiūnas Pianists’ Competition. The famous Polish pianist family – Jaroslaw, Stanislaw and Jekaterina Drzewiecki – winners of prestigious competitions and participants of various international festivals will offer outstanding musical entertainment.

The Festival will be showcasing talented young pianists who will play at the night music marathon at the foot of Birutė Hill on July 7th, the opening day of the Festival. Up-and-coming young performers from Palanga and surrounding towns will entertain the audience in other concerts of the Festival.
