Member of the European Festivals Association since 2001—An important regional festival created in 1992 by the Radio Music Department in Leipzig (Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk). The event is considered by the radio leadership as a manifestum of their engagement in developing cultural activities in the region which has great traditions in European music history. Among the venues you find historical monuments like the Wartburg castle (admitted to Unesco’s cultural world heritage), churches and castles of the “Bach cities” in the region. The programme—with different thematic guidelines of special concert series—covers a large scale of musical genres: from classical “mainstream” repertoire to the authentic historical performance on period instruments, from oratorio and acapella choir repertoire to world music.
