Kabuki in New York and Washington D.C.

kabuki Famed Kabuki actor Nakamura Kanzaburo XVIII directs the Heisei Nakamura-za company which is touring the Eastern United States. They performed at the Lincoln Center Festival this month, presenting ‘Hokaibo’, one of the few comedies in Kabuki repertory. On July 26th they presented “Kanjinchou’ one of Kabuki’s most famous dramatic works and ‘Migawarizazen’, a more light-hearted play with universal themes at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C.

Todd Reynolds at MASS MoCA

Todd ReynoldsComposer, conductor and violinist Todd Reynolds electrifies audiences by weaving together composed and improvised segments , making use of computer technology and digital loops to sculpt his sounds in real time. He performs and works with the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts from July 12-28th.

Hideki Noda new work in Tokyo

The Bee Japanese playwright and director Hideki Noda is best known for breaking new ground in his interpretations of Kabuki theatre. His play ‘The Bee’ was first developed in London in collaboration with writer Colin Teevan and poses the question- What would you do if your wife and child were being held hostage? ‘The Bee” will be at Theater Tram in Tokyo July 12- 29th.
